What's Your Management Impediment?
A friend of mine asked me an interesting question. He said, "Back when you managed people, what was the biggest impediment to you being an effective manager?" I didn't have to think long since it's the same answer for all my relationships with other people - ego and pride.
Whenever I have to be right or be the most important person in the room, that's an impediment to maintaining a good relationship with anyone else. So is holding on to resentments because of some real or perceived snub.
The best managers I've worked for were free of ego and pride. While being free of ego and pride doesn't come naturally to me, when I focus on the welfare of others and not on me, I'm not only a more effective manager, but a better person.
So what's your impediment to being an effective and successful manager?
